About

Katie Ikesaki is a flutist and music educator currently pursuing her Master of Music degree at the University of North Texas, where she studies with Mary Karen Clardy. She earned her Bachelor of Music from the University of Arizona under the instruction of Brian Luce. Katie has appeared as a soloist with orchestra and in recital, most recently performing the fourth movement of Sergei Prokofiev's Sonata for Flute and Piano at the Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp Staff Showcase as winner of the Blue Lake Staff Solo Competition. She has also performed Aram Khachaturian's Concerto for Flute with the White Mountain Symphony Orchestra in Show Low, Arizona.

An active and versatile musician, Katie regularly performs with the North Texas Wind Symphony and Concert Orchestra on both flute and piccolo. She appears on several albums with the Wind Symphony as well as recordings with Flutefinity, the flute ensemble at the University of Arizona. She's recorded professionally since high school, performing with wind quintets, orchestras, bands, and as a soloist. Katie is a comfortable performer across the full flute family, from bass flute to piccolo.

In addition to performance, Katie is a dedicated educator. She has worked as a private lessons teacher in the Plano Independent School District during her time in Texas, and spent two summers as a Camp Counselor and Instructor at Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp in Twin Lake, Michigan. She maintains a private studio teaching flute, piccolo, and piano with students in middle school and high school.

Katie's currently working to begin a career recording for film and television. Inspired by the music of Bruno Coulais, Hans Zimmer, and John Powell, she strives to create performances and recordings that are both technically refined and deeply communicative.
